Message Just start over. You or your father have a guage set/vacume pump. Pull a vac. for 1-2 hours. trusting your guage set to tell you if you have a leak is really not reliable, if the leak is large the set will simply tell you its leaking (somewhere) if its small (this is most often the case) the leak via your guages wont show it (except after a few days or so.) Will ask again, are you using R12 or a mixture (like freeze 12 etc?) Need to know so I can assist you. To check for a leak, (obvious places) you simply charge 1 can into the system and soap up the fittings, IF you have a dye injection setup you can also go that route and check for leaks. Air in the system will sometimes cause the readings that you posted. Also, and someone else mentioned it a compressor going south will not build up high side enough high side pressure to give you cooling. In any event, your pressures are not right at all. Start over! I will guide you through the procedure using your guage set, and yes, the Low side line should be chilled and sweaty cold (not frosted with ice) all the way back. hope this helps you.
